A bricklayer, Henry
Samson and a security guard, Idris Usman, were on Thursday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing their employer’s iron rods worth N50,000.
Samson, 23 and Usman, 25, are residing at the construction site of Galcon Engineering Ltd., their employer, located at Alpha Beach in Lekki, Lagos.
They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Babaje Ishiaku, told the court that the accused conspired to commit the offences at 10 a.m. on April 13 at their employer’s construction site.
He said they stole an unspecified number of iron rods worth N50, 000 from the site.
Ishiaku said that luck, however, ran out against the accused when they were caught in the act by the site engineer, one Mr Emeka Enah.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 285(7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285(7) prescribes seven years imprisonment for servants and clerks convicted of stealing from their employer.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs A. Famobiwo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 each with a surety each in like sum.
Famobiwo adjourned the case to May 3 for mention.
