Anambra Recruits 3,400 Primary School Teachers
The Anambra State
Government says it has recruited 3,400 teachers to meet the manpower needs in primary schools at the beginning of next academic session.
The Chairman, Anambra Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Mr Nzeemeka Olisa, made this known when he spoke at the finals of a drama and quiz competition for primary schools in the state.
He said that 3,000 teachers were drawn from the mass recruitment done by the government while an additional 400 were from the national teachers’ scheme.
The ASUBEB chairman stressed the need for moral rebirth in the society, especially at the primary school level which involved the pupils.
According to him, pupils in the state primary schools have been engaged in moral reforming activities in the past weeks preceding the quiz.
He identified dishonesty, greed, poor attitude to learning and laziness as some of the vices that bred corruption and distrust among the pupils and which eventually plagued the nation.
Olisa urged the teachers as moulders of the character of future generations to do their jobs diligently.
Also, the Desk Officer of the board, Rev. Judith Nwodo, said the quiz was to satisfy the provisions of Section 4(d) of the National Policy on Education, 2004 edition.
Nwodo said the drama and quiz competition were for moral and religious uplifting of the pupils as some of the measures to build a better future for Nigeria.
“This competition is aimed at teaching the children the beauty of virtues like honesty, generosity, teamwork and self-control as a tool for becoming better persons,” he said.
