Anambra Laments Poor Entries In Confederation Cup
The Anambra Football As
sociation (ASFA), has decried the low number of entries recorded for this year’s edition of the state’s Confederation Cup.
The Chairman of the association, Jude Obikwelu, told newsmen in Awka that only 19 teams concluded the registration process which ended last month.
Obikwelu said this was against the 36 teams that participated last year.
He said there was need for more sponsors for the competition to enable more clubs to be able to scale the hurdle of registration.
According to him, a fee of N50,000 was charged this year, instead of N40,000 fee of 2013, out of which 25 per cent would go to the national body.
He added that it had not been easy for a sole sponsor to bankroll the competition in the state.
“We have just 19 team taking part this year, as against the 36 for last year; we increased the registration fee by N10,000 so that the state FA can take care of some of the expenses with the sponsor.
“It will not be this high if there were more sponsors, as we would have loved to give the opportunity to a larger number of clubs.
