The sponsor of the 13th
Agoma Open Martial Arts Festival, Peters Oghenejobo, has said no fewer than 30 athletes would participate in the competition.
Oghenejobo told newsmen in Lagos that the festival would hold from May 13 to 18 at the Sam Ogbemudia, Stadium, Benin.
He said that the festival would feature five events — taekwondo, kickboxing, judo, kung-fu and karate, in both the male and female categories.
“Athletes have registered and are preparing for the upcoming competition, which I assure fans, will be interesting,” the sponsor said.
According to him, a cash prize of N50, 000 will be won by the best male and female athletes in all the categories.
He said they would also go home with certificates, medals and trophies.
“The cash prize will serve as motivation for the athletes to put in their best performances and in the process entertain the spectators,” Oghenejobo said.
He noted that the competition would provide opportunity for fighters to discover their strength and weaknesses, so as to become better athletes, worthy of international competitions.
Oghenejobo, who is also the 2012 Taekwondo Outstanding Achievement Award winner, said the festival would serve as preparatory ground, ahead of the 19th National Sports Festival (NSF).
The next NSF tagged ‘Paradise Games’ will hold from November 27 to December 9 in Calabar, the Cross River capital.
