19th NSF: Lagos Targets Multi-Medal Sports
A
ssistant Director of
Sports, Lagos State Sports Council, Akin Ladigbolu, has said the state would be focusing more on multi-medal sports at the 19th National Sports Festival (NSF).
The festival, tagged “Paradise Games”, will hold in Calabar from November 28 to December 3.
Ladigbolu told newsmen that Lagos would concentrate on the multi-medal sports such as swimming, athletics, golf, wushu kung-fu to emerge the overall winners of the festival.
“Basically, I always like to look at the multi-medal sports that can bring many medals like athletics, swimming, golf and some combat sports like wushu kung-fu because they bring in many medals.
“Lagos is preparing and concentrating on multi-medal sporting events because these can guarantee us emerging the overall winners of the festival,’’ Ladigbolu said.
On preparations, he said they would evolve different kinds of training ahead of the festival to achieve success.
“We have a programme around this time called the ‘road map’ toward the festival. It is what has helped us to improve from the 9th position to 3rd at the last Games.
“We will observe the open camping in the stage one, while the stage two will be another open camping, before we go into the closed camping.
“The closed camping will be the final training for six months where all the parameters will be used to evaluate those that will be eligible for selection,’’ he said.
Ladigbolu added that Lagos State was going to prepare toward success at the festival.
Lagos State was 3rd at the 2012 edition which it hosted, trailing Rivers and the overall winners, Delta.
