‘Why C-Way Water’s Off The Shelves’

The C-Way Drinking Water is now off the shelves of dealers’ shops and supermarkets in Rivers State following the Rivers State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) commencement of picketing of C-Way Drinking Water Science and Technology Nigeria Limited, the producers of the poplar drinking water in the state.
NLC’s action is in response to the alleged dehumanizing treatments meted out to staff of the company.
The picketing has thrown users of the drinking water  into panic and caused serious scarcity of the product.
In a statement in Port Harcourt, H.O.D. Public Relations of AUPCTRE, Comrade James Kobah, also called for the removal of the General Manager of the company, Ehiobu Ghandi for this continuous breach of  several decisions reached with the union on workers’ welfare.
The statement said that, “to this end, the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Service Employees has lauded the NLC for taking a bold step to address this problem,” and urged the management of the C-Way Drinking Water Science and Technology Nigeria Limited to dialogue with NLC to resolve the matter.
According to Kobah, the union decries a situation where workers who identified with the union were seen by the embattled general manager as saboteurs despite the fact that his company had been unionised a year ago.
AUPTCTRE also recalled with dismay the beating of a worker on duty by an expatriate and the general manager which was duly reported to the police.
“We further recall that this union reported the case of beating of a worker on duty by both the expatriate and the General  Manager to the police, where arrests were made and the case taken over by the NLC,” the statement said, and called on the police authorities to prosecute those found wanting.
