U-17 W/Cup: Minister Charges Flamingoes On Consistency
As the national U-17 women football team, the Flamingoes get set to confront their Spanish counterparts in the quarter finals match of the ongoing FIFA Women U-17 World Cup in Costa Rica, the Minister of Sports, Tamuno Danagogo, has urged the Flamingoes to maintain their current form if they want to go all the way in the competition.
The Flamingoes beat high-flying Mexico 3-0 in their final group game to top Group D, as they advanced into the quarter final stage.
In a statement made available to the media by the Minister’s Chief Press Secretary, Taye Akinyemi, the Minister who has travelled to Costa Rica to cheer the team, congratulated the girls for their fighting spirit and refusal to be intimidated by the goal scoring prowess of the Mexicans.
“The defeat of the Mexicans by three clear goals has shown that the team is ready to be another symbol of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan,” the statement read.
The Flamingoes coach, Bala Nikyu has said that that the victory over Mexico will boost their morals and that the players are fully motivated to battle Spain tomorrow.
With regards to assurances made prior to the competition by Flamingoes coach, Bala Nikyu, that his team will be a force to reckon with in Costa Rica, the Minister agreed that the Flamingoes have lived up to every word with their performance so far.
“This has proven not to be an empty boast as the team is poised to make a mark at the competition. I now urge you to redouble your efforts, especially at the knockout stage where you will meet another big football nation, Spain,” the Minister is quoted to have said.
Nigeria have been paired against Spain in the quarter-finals of the competition.
