gress of Nigeria (TUC) has kicked against the casualisation of labour in the country.
According to the union’s National President, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama, the issue of casualisation is really affecting the organised labour in the country.
Kaigaa said not until the National Assembly enacts a law to ensure that casualisaiton is prohibited in both the public and private sectors, whatever efforts of the organised labour will be like a drop in the ocean as it will not address the challenges of casualisation in the country.
He said that labour wants the National Assembly to come out with a law to punish employers indulge in this kind of enslavement of employees through casualisation.
The union boss said casualisation is more in the private sector employment than the public sector, stressing that the issue of casualisation is more prominent to employees in the banking industry, oil and gas, construction and telecommunications industries.
Kaigama said the organised labour is making efforts to ensure that a bill is enacted by the lawmakers to criminalise casualisation of Labour; stressing that employment within the private sector-driven economy is between 60-70 per cent while the public sector has very little role to play to drive the nation’s economy.
