Three Charged With Stealing Company’s Laptops
Three employees of a cou
rier company appeared before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of four laptops worth N280,000.
The accused – Ishola Saheed, 21; Omoniyi Olubusi, 40, and Adeola Alademehin – who reside at Somolu, Oshodi and Ikeja, respectively, in Lagos are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, told the court that the accused, employees of the United Parcel Services, Lagos, stole the laptops in January and February.
Adegoke said that the employees could not give account of the laptops kept in their care.
“They could not account for four HP laptops belonging to their employer and left in their care to facilitate their jobs,” Adegoke said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each, and adjourned the case till April 16 for substantive trial.
Meanwhile, A 33-year-old man, Sunday Patrick, charged with stealing GSM recharge cards, was charged before an Apapa Senior Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.
Patrick, whose address is unknown, was alleged to have stolen the recharge cards worth N298, 500 from his employer, one Mrs Chinonye Okoli.
The prosecutor, Insp Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused stole 199 pieces of N1500 recharge cards.
Inedu said that the offence was committed on November 14, 2013 at Aspamda Market, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.
He told the court that Okoli reported the matter to the police when she discovered that the items were missing, adding that investigation into the incident led to the arrest of the accused.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Adeyemi Amos, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till April 2, for continuation of hearing.
