Pilot Tennis League Excites Coaches
Some coaches at the on
going Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) Pilot League have expressed their satisfaction on the level of organisation of the competition.
The coaches expressed their views in interviews with newsmen in Lagos.
The Coach of Titan’s Table Tennis Club of Abia, Ifeoma Isaac, described the competition as well-organised with minimal hitches.
“So far in the league, there has not been any delay in a match and that is because the federation has done its homework.
“It ensured that all logistics were in place before the commencement of the league.”
She noted that the players were getting better with each match they played in the competition.
“They get better each day because every day they played with different persons.”
Isaac, however, appealed to the NTTF to ensure the sustenance of the league, in order to keep athletes busy and fit.
Another coach, Samson Ajayi of Union Bank Table Tennis Club, said that the competition kept players excited.
Ajayi said that the league was more or less a training tour.
“It is a training tour because they challenge different players and have to approach each match with different attitudes.
“I can assure you that the players’ confidence level have changed and they are far better off than they were; before the league served-off.”
He said that the league had brought glamour to the sport.
A Table Tennis Coach, Olawale Ajetumobi, said that the league served-off at the time the sport needed it.
Ajetumobi said that the competition had helped players to keep in shape.
“We used to be number one in Africa but unfortunately Egypt has displaced us to number two.
This type of competition will boost the performance of our players’ performance and propel their ranking.
“And if the federation continues at this pace our players will be a force to be reckoned with not just in Africa but in the whole world.”
He also appealed to the NTTF to ensure that it conducted more competitions for athletes, to improve their lot.
