The Traditional Rulers
Council in Anambra State has conferred the chieftaincy title of “Okwute” meaning Rock on the former State Governor, Peter Obi.
The Chairman of the council and traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu, led the team of 177 traditional rulers in the state to perform the ceremony in Awka recently.
In an address, the Chairman of the occasion and traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, said the honour was well deserved.
He noted that the Obi-led administration in the last eight years had been that of “peace, love, progress and blessing to Anambra people.”
Achebe described Obi as a worthy son of Anambra who had served meritoriously.
In his acceptance speech, Obi thanked the traditional rulers for the gesture.
He recalled that he had earlier rejected the offer from several groups, saying that he did not want to collect it while in office.
The former governor urged the people of the state to support the incoming administration.
