NSCDC Parades Generator Vandal Suspects In Enugu

Enugu State has paraded two suspects for alleged vandalism of an electricity generating set belonging to MTN at Neke, Isi-Uzo Local Government.
The Commandant of the corps, Mr Nathaniel Ubong, who paraded the suspects, said they were apprehended on March 13 while three other persons who claimed to be MTN officials were at large.
“We arrested these men with a crane trying to assist some people who claimed to be MTN officials in transporting a 227kg generator attached to a mast.
“The three suspected fake MTN officers drove off when they were asked to present their identity cards which they claimed was in their vehicle.
“At the scene, we apprehended the two suspects in our custody who told us that they were invited by the run-away suspects to assist them in conveying the generators.
“When we put a call across to MTN, they confirmed that none of their official was sent to the mast,’’ Ubong said.
He said the suspects would be arraigned as soon as possible.
In a related development, four women were arrested for child trafficking at a filling station in Enugu following a tip-off from good citizens.
According to the commandant, one of the women in collaboration with others, used their three children to beg for alms in the pretext that they were her triplets and was arrested on March 14.
Ubong said the three children were owned by different mothers and differed in age and cried uncontrollably under the heavy sun.
“During the investigation, we discovered that the children were each from the three women.
“The women collaborated to use the children in collecting money from the public to meet their needs,” he said.
Ubong said the women confessed that they realised up to N20,000 daily and shared it equally.
Three of the women who are married said they were doing it to meet their needs because their husbands were sick.
Meanwhile, the only unmarried woman among them said she was a bar tender but could not meet her needs with her salary which made her to get involved in the act.
