Nigeria Hopeful At World Cricket League
Team Manager, Nige
ria Cricket Federation (NCF), Okon Ukpong, has expressed optimism over the senior male team’s chances at the World Cricket League (WCL) Division 5 in Malaysia.
Ukpong spoke with newsmen in Lagos.
He said that he was hopeful based on the performance of the team during their training tour in Sri Lanka from February 22 to March 3.
The World Cricket League Division 5 begins on March 4 and will end on March 14 in Kuala Lumpur.
“The game of cricket is tricky, the turf and weather play great roles in assisting teams’ success.
“So with the two wins and two defeats during their training tour in Sri Lanka, I expect the team to do well in Malaysia.
“And it is a morale booster for them to go into the competition with the air of victory in them though it will not be an easy tournament in Malaysia,” he said.
The team qualified for the Division 5 after emerging 2nd at the WCL Div. 6 in Jersey (UK) in 2013.
Five other countries will be competing in the tournament.
They are Jersey, Tanzania, Cayman Island, Guernsey and the host country, Malaysia.
