The Minister of Envi
ronment, Mrs Laurentia Mallam, has solicited the support of the staff to achieve environmental sustainability in the country.
Mallam made the call at the Federal Ministry of Environment Headquarters in Abuja and urged the staff to work with her to achieve the ministry’s mandate.
“Let us work together so that we can get results.
“I want to say that I am blessed to have knowledgeable staff and I will tap from your knowledge to also enrich myself, to make sure that the mandate of the ministry is achieved.
“I want to say to you that I will operate an open door policy to achieve results; we should learn from one another and with love, we will solve our problems together.
“If the atmosphere is conducive for us, we can work together and succeed to contribute to the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan because the agenda is for all of us.’’
While urging the staff to work hard, she promised that she would be willing to look into any issue presented to her by the union.
Mallam expressed her appreciation to President Jonathan for appointing her into his cabinet and the Kaduna State governor for endorsing her nomination.
“I want to thank my governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Yero, for endorsing my nomination and Vice President Namadi Sambo, whom I worked with when he was the governor of my state (Kaduna).’’
Presenting the vote of thanks, Mrs Lauren Braide, the Director, Human Resources in the ministry, assured the minister of the cooperation and support of staff, to help her to succeed.
“Achieving your mandate will also translate to achieving the transformation agenda of Mr President and together, we shall make the necessary inputs and efforts to move our great nation forward,’’ she said.
It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan, in a cabinet reshuffle on September 11, 2013,  dropped the the former Minister, Mrs Hazida Mailafia, and directed, Mr Darius Ishaku, the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, to oversee the ministry.
Mallam becomes the 13th minister since the creation of the ministry in 1999.
