LSHA Boss Advocates Talents Hunt
The Chairperson, Lagos
State Handball Association, Adeola Opeifa, has urged corporate organisations to continuously organise competitions to discover and build budding talents in the sport.
Opeifa told newsmen in Lagos that attention and priority should be given to handball and other sports, so that athletes would be developed and become professionals.
“If we give similar publicity and priority to other sports like the one given to football, we would have produced first class athletes with international recognition.
“We need to train our athletes continuously to upgrade their skills and put them in shape to replace the tired ones for national and international competitions.
“We need regular competitions at the local government, state and national levels, to discover talents who will win laurels for the country in future international competitions,’’ she said.
Opeifa advised sports authorities to organise competitions at all levels, to discover and nurture budding talents that would represent Nigeria in future international competitions
The Secretary urged state athletes to put in their best to improve their chances of being called up to represent the state at the coming National Sports Festival.
According to her, the handball game is played quite fast and includes body contact as the defenders try to stop the attackers from approaching the goal.
The chairperson appealed for adequate funding and publicity for handball, to make it more attractive to the youths who might want to make a career of it.
