The Kano State
Handball Association (KSHA) has concluded arrangements to organise the 2014 edition of the U-12 and U-14 Grassroots Handball Championships.
The head coach, Solomon Yola, told newsmen that the competition would hold in April during school vacation to adequately engage youths in the state.
He said that the exact dates for the annual championships would be announced soon.
“The association is making serious efforts to scout for talents in handball who can represent the state in national events.
“This talent discovery holiday event is to identify budding athletes in secondary schools.
“The tournament will commence immediately after schools go on break; matches will hold everyday during the period.
“The focus has always been on the youth; we want to encourage them to develop their talents in handball,” Yola said.
He said that the annual tournament which started in 2012 had provided opportunities for the association to discover a large number of handball talents.
The coach told newsmen that handball had been vibrant in the state, and that administrators were passionate about promoting the sport.
