The Principal, King’s Col
lege, Lagos, Mr Oladele Olapeju, has  urged the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to intensify efforts in bringing a permanent solution to the irregular power supply to the college.
Olapeju told newsmen in Lagos that irregular power supply was a major challenge in the execution of the developmental programmes of the 104-year-old college.
“The issue of power is one of the greatest challenges currently facing the college. We spend nothing less than N4 million monthly in procuring diesel that will serve the two campuses. “We are spending well over our overhead cost for this purpose, to meet up with the demands of our day-to-day activities in the college,” he said, adding that “this, in no small measure, was rubbing off seriously on other issues jostling for attention,” he said.
According to him, the issue of power in every institution or even in private homes cannot be compromised.
He said this was especially so in an academic set up “where you need power to carry out all the functions as well as make the environment conducive for teaching and learning.”
Olapeju said the college was doing its best to ensure that the students were exposed to the best form of teaching and learning.
He, however, said the college might not be able to achieve the best of its target if parents and other stakeholders do not partner with it.
“That is why I am calling on the newly-elected PTA executive to step up efforts in this regard, in finding a lasting solution to the challenge.  “I want to seize this forum to let them know that the children in this college belong to all of us and we cannot leave their welfare solely in the hands of government., he said.
“It is time focus to come together and contribute our quota in the overall development of not just the college, but our children too,” he said.
According to him, if the children are well taken care of, they will have no excuse on why they cannot do well academically and morally.
“Through our little commitment, we will harness and nurture these young minds that will eventually build the much desired country we all are craving for,” he said.
