Int’l Friendly: S’Eagles Test Form Against Mexico, Tonight
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will tonight run out against their Mexican counterparts as both teams begin effective buildup to their participation in the forthcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
It is an opportunity for both teams to test run players that will fly their flag in Brazil come June this year.
For the Super Eagles, it is an avenue for Coach Stephen Keshi and his lieutenants to try to chose the best possible talents available for the mundial.
More importantly, the four home based players Ejike Uzoenyi, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Ebenezer Odunlami and Shehu Abdullahi, as well as new comers, Ramon Azeez, Imoh Ezekiel and others will use the occasion to convince the coaching crew of their credential and readiness to be part of the World Cup train.
Besides the friendly, nature of the encounter, games with Mexico have always been a close and keenly contested affair.
Nigerian fans would expect Keshi and his boys to show champions stuff with their performance and build confidence ahead of the World Cup.
The international friendly game which will be played at the Atlanta Georgia Dome by 2:30am, Thursday morning has attracted huge interest from Nigerians fans, who want the Eagles to do the country proud.
According to former Super Eagles Head Coach and FIFA and CAF Instructor, Adegboyega Onigbinde, the Eagles have what it takes to defeat Mexico to night.
The former FIFA and CAF instructor added that the Eagles handlers were capable of getting a good result from the friendly encounter.
“I think the technical crew has what it takes to deliver, nobody knows their plans for the friendly and that includes me but I believe that they won’t fail us.
“I think the team should do its best to make Nigeria proud, which is in the hands of the players and technical crew.
“I don’t know what Keshi has in his programme and I don’t want to confuse him.
“We have been having some good results and I believe that it will spur us to perform better,’’ Onigbinde said.
Our correspondent reports that the two teams had battled to a 2-2 draw when they last met at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
