Imo Begins Construction Of First Flyover In Owerri
The Imo State Govern
ment has commenced the construction of the state’s first flyover in Owerri, 38 years after the creation of the state.
The flyover located at the Orlu junction linking Onitsha Road via Sam Mbakwe Road was to address the perennial traffic congestion recorded in the area daily.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Works, Chief Best Mbanaso in Owerri said that the project would be completed before the end of December.
Mbanaso said that the foreign firm (J.P. Constructing Company), executing the project had been mobilised and work had commenced.
He described the flyover as ‘magnificent’ project, which would be one of the landmark projects of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration.
“The flyover project is a monumental project and government will stop at nothing to ensure that the project is completed before the end of December this year.
“Alternative routes have already been created for road users as the project will cause undue suffering to people,’’ he said.
He urged residents of Owerri, especially commuters to cooperate with the company while the work lasted.
