Ikwerre Women, Rep Pledge Support For Amaechi

Ikwerre women under the banner of Ikwerre Women Forum (IWF) have pledged to support Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi administration.
President of the body and member representing Port Harcourt 1 Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Engr. Victoria Nyeche made the pledge when she inaugurated the Emohua chapter at the weekend.
Nyeche urged them to promote peaceful co-existence and harmony in the state.
She maintained that the group will never be silent to watch as injustice, lawlessness and conflict pervade the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, and charged them to vote for credible candidates in 2015 elections.
Nyeche who is also the Ada Ochiri Ekwnu Ya Oro of Rebisi, urged the women to muster support for Governor Amaechi towards achieving his vision for the state.
National Vice President of IWF, Dame Edith Otonna during the inauguration, said the group was formed to ensure good governance, unity and to foster the betterment of women in the state.
Dame Otonna also said the forum will create a platform for the women to be properly enlightened on how they can participate in governance by voting effectively and wisely in the forthcoming elections in order to attract development and ensure the well-being of their people.
She, therefore, called on the newly inaugurated chapter of IWF in Emohua to see their assignment as a call to service and performance in the various units and wards across the four Ikwerre speaking local government areas.
In her acceptance speech, the IWF President in Emohua, Mrs Pauline Omerigi said the women group will continue to motivate, mobilise and encourage Ikwerre women to embrace new responsibilities.
She promised to live up to expectation of the group, and also pledged loyalty to work in ensuring that love, peace and unity, which she described as a symbol of Ikwerre women.
Meanwhile, Guest of Honour at the occasion and member, House of Representatives representing Emohua/Ikwerre Federal Constituency, Chief Andrew Uchendu underscored the need for Ikwerre women to be united.
Uchendu recalled the efforts of the governor and other stakeholders in the four Ikwerre local government areas have made attracting development to the state.
He further indicated the readiness of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality to support other ethnic groups in the state to take over the governorship slot in 2015.
In the same vein, Interim Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in EMOLGA, and chairman of the occasion, Barrister Vincent Uchendu advised the women to ensure the advancement of the 35 per cent affirmative action towards ensuring speedy development in the area.
Similarly, Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Emma Chinda and Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Allen Nma expressed confidence that women in the four Ikwerre speaking local government areas will achieve their common goal.
