Ijaw Leader Opposes Wike For Governor
A political activist and an
Ijaw leader from the Kalabari extraction, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, has warned those supporting the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike for the governorship of Rivers State to tread with caution, saying the governorship of the State is not for sale to the highest bidder.
Chief Sara-Igbe gave this warning in a chat with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, shortly before his departure to Abuja.
He reminded the groups supporting Wike for the State governor that the Ikwerres have already had their governorship slot for eight years and should leave the position for other ethnic nationalities in the state.
According to him, “Rivers State has a pattern of selecting governors, at least I have been involved in selecting three. The State agreed in the past to go by ethnic nationalities and the position is moving from Ikwerre to Kalabari and after them, the Ogonis will take their turn”.
He was emphatic that “governorship will not remain in Ikwerre after 2015. So anybody adopting Wike is making a strong mistake and should realize himself before it becomes late”.
Chief Sara-Igbe said although the State was predominantly a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State, the confusion being caused by Chief Wike was capable of destroying the party in the state.
“The Hon Minister was with Governor Amaechi as Chief of Staff, he caused a lot of confusion, all the stakeholders that brought Amaechi to power including Dr Peter Odili were chased away and when he left Amaechi to Mr President, all he did was to cause confusion between Amaechi and Dr Goodluck Jonathan”, Sara-Igbe noted.
The Ijaw leader insisted that ‘a confusionist like Wike’ would not be accepted by Rivers people, adding that if PDP decided to adopt him as the governorship candidate, they should be ready to witness mass protest vote.
Chief Sara-Igbe acknowledged that Governor Amaechi was party to the agreement that another ethnic nationality would continue after Ikwerre, emphasizing that he was the spokesman of Rivers Democratic Movement (RDM) and attended all levels of the meeting concerning the state.
“During the meetings, zoning was adopted not only for governorship position, but others like Speaker, Secretary to government, commissioners etc. Governor Amaechi is only trying to uphold the agreement” he said.
