Omu-Ogbunmo family in
Omuibo, Egbeda in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State has threatened to seek redress in court if Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPPC) does not disclose to the family the procedure used in the acquisition of its farmland.
SPDC which is building Egbeda Gas-To-Power project at Omu-Ogbunmo farmland in Egbeda is being accused of sidelining its land lords in the acquisition of the land.
Spokesman for the family, Pst Cyprian Amadi told The Tide at the weekend in Port Harcourt, that the land which the SPDC and its joint venture partners want to use for the gas project ought to be legally acquired.
According to him. “There is no survey plan evidencing between the SPDC and its principal landlords.
He also expressed regrets that no memorandum of understanding was signed between the company and family.
Pst Amadi said he had never seen where anybody’s land was acquired without consultation or compensation.
Pastor Amadi noted that the family would leave no stone unturned to ensure that their family land was not expropriated.
He urged the SPDC and its joint venture partners to seek the consent of the family as his family depended on its land for farming.
He pointed out that they were agrarian people and urged government to intervene on their behalf.
