Ex-Commissioner Tasks Schools On Sports Dev

A former Commissioner for
Education in Rivers State, Mrs Sarah Ntorue has called on secondary schools in Rivers State to embrace sporting activities as an integral part of school curriculum to harness budding talents for career development in sports.
Mrs Ntorue gave the charge while speaking as a special guest of honour at the 8th Inter-house Sports Competition of the Community Secondary School (UBE) Bori in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State; last weekend.
Ntorue who was represented by a staff of the Zonal Education Board in Khana  Local Government Area, Mrs Ayagogo Lesi Birabi, said the sporting abilities of youths can best be identified through athletic competitions which showcases their varying talents.
She commended the management of the school for the high turn out and successful conduct of the Inter-house sports competition, and called on the students to be dedicated to their academic activities to guarantee their future.
Earlier in her welcome address, the  principal of the school, Mr Beta Kpobari, has said that the Inter-house sports competition was in accordance with the laws of Amateur Athletic Association of Nigeria (AAN), with an objective to build the mental and physical fitness of the child.
The Principal solicited the support of state government, corporate bodies and public spirited individuals in the promotion of sports among schools.
In his remark, the Chairman of the event, Engineer SanyieBari  Fiiwe, expressed satisfaction over the performance of the athletes, and commended the management of school in organising the event.
Simeon Menegbo House won the 1st position and overall trophy with a total of 346 points, Adolphus Yokirika House came second with  264 points, while Hon Gordon Tonwe House came 3rd with 226 points.
