The Enugu State Gov
ernment has commenced moves to upgrade its survey laws to bring them up to speed with the contemporary times.
To this effect, the state executive council has approved the draft bill for the amendment which will be presented to the state assembly for necessary action.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, who briefed newsmen on the outcome of the meeting, lamented that the state was still using outdated survey laws.
He said the bill would help to reduce land speculation and accommodate contemporary land issues, especially at the state’s ministry of lands, when amended.
The commissioner said the council also approved N84 million to upgrade the high court complex in Enugu.
Ugwoke said the upgrade would facilitate speedy dispensation of justice and provide a conducive environment for productivity.
He explained that the money would be channeled into the construction of 16 additional court rooms and furnishing of offices in the complex.
The commissioner said that N32 million had also been budgeted by the council for the planting of trees, shrubs, grasses and flowers for the beautification of the coal city.
He said the areas for beautification were Presidential Road, Agbani Road, Ogui Road and Ozubulu Street.
Ugwoke explained that the council also approved N43 million for the Enugu State Water Corporation to procure water treatment chemicals.
He said the purification became necessary following the pollution of water by rust pipes from the Ajalli Owa Water Scheme.
