driver charged With Knocking Down Pedestrian
A 36-year-old
bus driver, Emmanuel Ndaks, who allegedly knocked down a 25-year-old pedestrian, Akeem Salami, in Lagos has been charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court.
Ndaks, who resides at 4, Femi Pearse St., Victoria Island, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge bordering on reckless driving and manslaughter.
He, however, denied the charges.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Ishiaku Babaje told the court that the accused committed the offences at 6.00 p.m. on March 22 at Lakowe area of Ibeju-Lekki on Lekki-Epe Expressway.
He alleged that the motorist drove his Hyundai bus marked KSF 943 BB recklessly without respect for other road users and knock down Salami.
“Salami received serious injuries as a result of the accident which led to his death.’’
According to Babaje, the offences contravene Sections 18 (1), 19 (1) and 20 of Lagos State Traffic Law 2012.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Johnson, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Our correspondent reports that Section 20 prescribes seven years imprisonment for dangerous driving.
The case was adjourned to April 23 for mention.
