Deforestation: Kwara Suspends Forest Activities
The Kwara State
Government has suspended forest activities following continued destruction of forest reserves by some individuals.
The government said in a statement issued in Ilorin by the Press Secretary, Kwara Ministry of Environment and Forestry,Hajia Fatimoh Amuda, that the action was seriously effecting the environment.
“All forest activities are, henceforth, suspended until further notice,” the statement said.
It said that a monitoring team had been set up by the ministry to ensure strict compliance, warning that anybody caught would be appropriately dealt with.
It called on interested timber businessmen to register with the ministry and urged law-abiding citizens to report illegal forest activities in their vicinities to the government.
