Cult Clash Claims Three In Ataba

Three persons have been reportedly killed in a clash between rival cult groups at Ataba in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The three persons suspected to be members of the Icelanders were identified as Victor Victor, alias Ikpeba, Friday Amos and Edam Wanta Awortu.
They were allegedly killed on Saturday, while returning from the burial of one Chief Ogbidor at Ataba Town.
The Tide gathered that the incident started after a member of the Greenlanders, who was attacked by members of Icelanders during the burial, informed members of his group about the attack.
The Greenlanders reportedly laid ambush, and opened fire on the suspected members of the Icelanders who were returning from the burial.
Speaking with The Tide, under anonymity, a survivor in the boat said Victor Victor died instantly, while the two others were taken away by the suspected Greenlanders.
He said, apart from the three suspected Icelanders, others in the boat were not attacked, although some of them sustained injuries.
Efforts to confirm this from the authorities of the state police command proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Musa, said he could not entertain any matter as he was still indisposed.
However, police authorities in the area confirmed the incident, and stated that the cult groups were under surveillance, adding that investigation was on.
