Counsel Tells NBA To Embrace Peace
A Lagos-based lawyer
and human rights activist, Barr Abraham Jande has called for unity in Port Harcourt branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Barr. Jande, who made the call while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend said the issue of the appointment of the state Chief Judge should not polarize the bar.
He said that the trading of insults among members diminishes the worth of the bar.
According to him, “Every attempt at bringing down the image of a member of the bar, also diminishes the image of the entire bar association.
Barr Jande said the bar consists of noblemen who must show nobility in all their acts because the society was watching.
On the issue of the appointment of a chief judge he said since the matter was already in court, the rule of law must be allowed to prevail.
He said nobody should resort to self-help whatever be the circumstances.
Barr. Jande said lawyers by the calling ought to live exemplary lives.
He said that lawyers let the matter be and accept the decision of the court as final.
According to him, “trading of insults, bickering and polarisation will not do the bar any good.”
Jande said the sermon of peace should be preached to all members of the Bar and urged all to embrace peace in order to move the bar forward.
