A chieftain of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon Hope Onyeche says the party remains the only party to beat in the next year general elections in the area.
Hon Onyeche said the clarification became necessary following claims made by some acclaimed leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area that the PDP was in control of the local government area.
Speaking to The Tide in an exclusive interview at Okeln, the headquarters of the local government area, last Friday, Hon Onyechi said such claims by the PDP were false, adding that the APC is the leading party in the area.
According to him, “The All Progressives Party stands for freedom, liberation and the people of the area have embraced the change,” adding that the party would sweep the entire positions available during the 2015 general elections, as well as the expected local council polls in the area.
He urged the governor and the entire people of the state to disregard the statement credited to one of their sons, Prince Emma Anyanwu that Etche people had adopted the Supervising Minister for Education Nyeson Wike as governor of the state in 2015.
While describing such statement as false, Hon Hope said Prince Anyanwu can not speak for Etche people because he was of the minority, adding that the entire people of Ulakwo clan and indeed the people of Etche ethnic nationality did not mandate Anyanwu to speak for them.
The Ulakwo born politician stated that the majority of Etche politicians and people have thrown their weight behind the state government, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
“My brother, the majority of Etche people stand up for Governor Amaechi, what ever the governor wishes, that is what the people will do. APC represents a change,” he said.
He described Amaechi as a visionary leader who loves Etche people as well as a detribalized Nigerian who has impacted positively on the lives of the people through people – oriented programmes. The APC Chieftain urged the leaders of the party in the area to give the youths the opportunity to participate in the governance and well as to empowering them saying such efforts would disabuse their minds from indulging in criminal activities.
