COEASU Lifts Suspension Of College

Ogunsanya College of Education Chapter of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), has said that the suspension of the chapter by the national executive of the union had been lifted.
The President of the caretaker committee of the chapter, Mr Wole Ajose, told journalists in Lagos that the suspension was lifted during the Expanded National Executive Council meeting of the union, held on March 15.
Ajose said the chapter’s reconciliation was embraced by the national body, due to its enviable active participation in unionism in the past, stessing that the college produced the first national president of COEASU.
“The suspension was lifted subject to certain proviso that will be communicated to the union later in the week, and the fine, including the outstanding dues will also be paid.
“While we await the fine option and the outstanding dues of two years, which will be negotiated, dues accrued since the resumption of the caretaker committee has been paid,” he said.
The college had, on February 4, dissolved the executive of the union and put in place a caretaker committee to start the reconciliation process of the union.
The chapter on March 14, began a reconciliation move, which resulted in the lifting of the over 24-month suspension, placed on its activities by the headquarters of COEASU.
Investigation by The Tide revealed that AOCOED was suspended from COEASU’s activities, for over two years, following its anti-union activities and for acting contrary to the directives of the national headquarters of the union.
