Coach Harps On Modern Sporting Facilities
The Coach of the Lagos
State Handball Association, Lucas Honvo, has urged upgrading of facilities in sporting centres in Lagos State to promote training of athletes.
Honvo told newsmen in Lagos that the upgrade would enhance athletes’ performance.
The coach, a member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the just-concluded Eko Veteran’s Handball League, said that Nigeria had talents who required effective training to become world beaters.
“Our facilities are old; they need to be replaced with new ones to further enhance training of athletes to improve their skills and performances.
“The whole idea is to bring them to international standards so that they will be able to measure up with their foreign counterparts,” Honvo said.
He also urged organisation of regular competitions for athletes to build their careers.
The coach said that the association would hold the next edition of its competition from June, 2014 and April 2015.
“It is easy to develop athletes at the early stage of their careers so that they will have full concentration.
“We want to create a platform where we have a handball league where the youth will have the opportunity to showcase their talents,” he said.
He commended Lagos handball veterans for the success recorded during the maiden edition of the league.
The coach said that the league engaged many youths meaningfully and removed their attention from vices.
