The Federal Road
Safety Commission (FRSC) in Bauchi State has  cautioned drivers against driving on wrong lanes.
Malam Mohammed Kolo, Public Enlightenment Officer of the state Sector Command, told our correspondent that the caution was necessary because of the dangers involved in the act.
Kolo said the commission had been receiving complaints about female drivers, mostly learners, using the wrong lanes as short cuts.
“These women often carry small children in front and are unmindful of the dangers of what they are doing,” he said.
He said that although male motorists were also guilty of the offence, the concern for women and the children made the female case more serious.
According to him, the FRSC has been patrolling areas in Bauchi metropolis to prevent these acts.
The spokesman said the commission had been asked to patrol areas like the Railway Quarters Round About, Ran Gate and IBB Way, near Doctors Quarters.
All the affected areas are dual carriage ways where most drivers and motorcyclists tend to take the wrong lanes instead of using designated turns.
Our correspondent also reports that many accidents have been recorded due to either crossing over the pavements by motorcyclists or driving against the traffic.
