The Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi has announced a N150 million grant to Etche Local Government Council to further drive its rural electrification project by ensuring that all communities in the area get hooked to power supply.
Speaking at a reception shortly after unveiling the 80- lock-up shop ultra modern market at Igbodoh and rural electrification at Igbodoh, Etche on Friday, Amaechi ordered that the project be completed before December.
The governor said so far, roads in the area have been done, but promised to connect Ozuzu to Omademe.
In the words of Amaechi,” the reason for providing light to Etche people is that there is no Ikwerre village without light. So, why should our neighbours and brothers stay without light”.
Aside providing power, he assured that the new model secondary school will kick -off by September, while lauding them for the high school enrolment in the area.
Calling on the people to embrace the All Progressives Congress (APC), Amaechi insisted that that was one way they can get their ceded 41 oil wells to Abia State back, revealing that the state government has gone to court to fight for the oil wells.
Against this backdrop, he called on Etche people to support the quest to get the oil wells back, advising that “if you don’t register and vote in the APC, you will never get your oil wells back”.
Earlier, Chairman of the council, Reginald Ukwuoma, had praised the governor for his leadership qualities and love for Etche people.
He stated that the market project was a modest way to touch the lives of the people, explaining that the facility has over 800 lock-up shops, a police post and fire service.
Ukwuoma also said the electrification project aims at ensuring that power gets to the community, which shares boundary with Imo State, emphasizing that they were done to amplify the developmental strides of the governor in the rural areas.
Ukwuoma remarked that since the creation of the local government area, no administration has touched the lives of the people like the present one.
“What you have done in Rivers State can never be washed by air and time’’, he said.
The Etche council boss declared that the area was in full support of the governor and his administration.
In his remarks, Onye Isi Etche, Eze Emmanuel Opurum, harped on the unity and togetherness of all Etche peaple.
Speaking on behalf of Etche people, Dr Obi Njoku lauded the governor for his sterling qualities, as he urged him to fight on for the ceded oil wells, assuring that the people would continue to support him.
