Abba Seeks Technical Audit On Collapsed Building In Nsukka
The Chairman, Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Mr Vita Abba, has called for technical audit report to ascertain the cause of a collapse of a 3-storey building under construction in Nsukka.
The building reportedly collapsed on Saturday in Nsukka.
Abba, an engineer, made the call in Nsukka on Sunday, when he visited the site of the collapsed building on the Enugu Road, Nsukka.
He said that the Nsukka soil texture was firm enough to carry the three storey building, saying the technical audit would establish the actual cause of the collapse.
“We have not heard of this kind of thing in Nsukka for a long time. Nsukka is not prone to soil problems, so there will be technical audit to ascertain the root cause of the problem.
Abba condoled with families of victims that were trapped under the rubble. “I express my heart-felt condolences to members of the families of the victims.’’
The PDP chairman commended FEROTEC Construction Company for bringing its earth moving equipment to assist in the rescue operations.
“We are making effort so that National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will join in the rescue operation. NEMA Enugu office has been contacted,’’ he said
Some of the stakeholders, who accompanied Abba, include a former Nsukka Local Government Chairman, Mr Tony Ugwu, Mr Oyema Idoko, PDP chieftain and Mr Celestine Ogbu, leader, Nsukka Legislative Council.
Meanwhile, Mr Isa Gwadebe and John Abi, survivors from the collapsed building, said they were working when suddenly the building collapsed and they managed to jump out while some others were trapped.
“We are seven working when it happened, Some people are still inside the building,’’ Abi said in tears.
The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed that the body of one the workers identified as Christopher Adoni, a carpenter, was pulled out of the rubble.
“Four masons escaped and a carpenter was trapped in the building,’’ Amaraizu said.
