2015: MOSOP Denies Endorsing Wike For Gov
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has denied endorsing the Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, as the next governor of Rivers State in 2015.
MOSOP said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday that it had not approved any aspirant for the position of the governor.
President of MOSOP, Mr. Legborsi Pyagbara, in a statement signed by his Media and Public Affairs Advisor, Mr. Bari-ara Kpalap, warned local politicians to stop dragging the name of Ogoni nationality in an attempt to please their financiers.
Calling on members of the public to ignore the claim that the movement had approved a particular aspirant for governor, Pyagbara lamented that a few ‘shortsighted’ Ogoni politicians were bent on holding the nationality hostage.
“Reports connecting some Ogoni members of a so-called Ogoni/Orashi Alliance had alleged that Ogoni had ratified Nyesom Wike for the 2015 Rivers State Governorship contest. We wish to reiterate that Ogoni cannot be put up for sale, not by any Ogoni person nor by any outsider,” Pyagbara said.
He stated that MOSOP was aware of the plot to frustrate the resolve of Ogoni to fight its marginalisation.
Pyagbara warned that any Ogoni politician working against the interest of the people would be declared persona non-grata.
