Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, says his administration is poised to industrialize the state in order to boost its economic potentials in the nearest future.
Governor Amaechi said this yesterday at a dinner in honour of some foreign investors from China in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Represented by his Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, Amaechi, who is also the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), stated that his administration believes that partnering with the Chinese investors would enhance development in all sectors of the state’s economy, stressing that “whatever we are doing today will bear fruits in the future for the next generation”.
He noted that “if we must move on, it is time to partner with well meaning investors with better developmental ideas,” adding that “Rivers State has in the last few years done a lot to standardize the economic growth of the state.”
He urged the visitors to take advantage of the multiple investment opportunities in Rivers State and Nigeria, especially in the power sector.
In his speech, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. George Feyii, lauded the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Nigeria Limited for collaborating with the state government in ensuring that the drive to industrialize the state becomes a reality, assuring them of a conducive environment for business.
Speaking on behalf of SPDC, Dr. Ama Ikuru, stated that the real development of Nigerian economy should go beyond oil, pointing out that “Nigeria is blessed with an educated workforce, techniques and market place needed for investment by any foreign investor,” adding that “let us add industrialization to what we have on ground in Nigeria”.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi has described the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyeson Wike, as an indecent mind contributing nothing than a baggage of mischief and villainy.
He stated this while reacting to Wike’s statement that the governor would be made to account for every money that accrued to the state during his administration.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Tony Okocha, the governor said when the “evil-plotter beats the drum for the innocent, the gods will not let it sound”, adding that Wike will not be playing god in the state.
Okocha said “Governor Amaechi is and remains a hero in our political history.
“His prodigy in the political landscape cannot be dwarfed by never-do-wells like Wike,” he said.
“He is a great achiever, erudite scholar, incorruptible and fearless. His decision not to support President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 is borne out of principles and self-conviction. He is entitled to it.
“Wike is one of those who ill-advised the President that opposition is punishable by death.
“See where we are today with such nincompoops around. One would expect that he is scolded for making such gutter statement, but alas, it is a further meal ticket for him,” he added.
