Veterinary Doctors Want Improved Facilities In Anambra

The Anambra State
chapter of Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, has appealed to the state government to establish a veterinary hospital in the state, as well as build modern abattoirs.
The state chairman of the association, Dr Webster Okonkwo, made the appealed in an interview with newsmen in Awka last  Sunday,  saying that the absence of a veterinary hospital in the state, had resulted in veterinary doctors traveling to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Nsukka, Enugu State to confirm diagnosis and references.
He also said that the state was replete with sub-standard slaughter houses, which were posing serious threat to public health.
“This is causing a serious setback to operations of veterinary doctors in the state,” he said.
Okonkwo suggested that the government should establish veterinary hospitals, clinics and laboratories in each senatorial district, so as to improve veterinary services delivery in the state.
“The state government should also consider rehabilitating or building new slaughter facilities across the state,” he added.
The association’s chairman, however, commended the government for the recent recruitment of 15 veterinary doctors, but said that more veterinary doctors were needed to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
