The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Brathwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital branch has suspended its 19-day old strike action as the state government has released the sum of N1billion.
The release of the amount is in fulfillment of the state government commitment to the agreement reached with the doctors.
Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State, Dr Ibitroemi Kurubo said in a chat with The Tide, yesterday that the NMA had to intervene in the matter, saying that even though the doctors demands were legitimate, the interest of the people had to be taken into consideration.
He said both the government and ARD came to a satisfactory agreement after negotiations, adding that the government has already kept part of its obligations.
