Pillars Crash Out Again
Glo Premier League
champions Kano Pillars crashed out of the CAF Champions League despite beating AS Vita Club of DR Congo 2-1 on Saturday at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Pillars, who also exited the competition in the qualifying stage last year at the hands of Black Leopards, were eliminated 4-3 on aggregate, having lost the first leg 3-1 in Kinshasa.
Pillars were given a rude shock when the visitors took the lead through Agiti Etekiama as early as the third minute of the game.
Kabiru Umar equalised in the 67th minute, while Abdul Haruna gave the home side the lead three minutes later. But the Sai Mesu Gida were, however, unable to get the much-needed third goal to force extra-time.
The club had set up several committees to oversee the club’s successful campaign this season. The loss is a blow to the Nigeria Premier League.
