Osogbo Residents Commend Aregbesola On Sanitation Exercise
Some residents of Osogbo
commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun for providing the necessary tools for the conduct of the bi-monthly sanitation exercise across the state.
They made the commendation in separate interviews during the exercise last Saturday.
Mr Oluwaseun Ajibade, a resident of Osogbo, said the initiative of the present administration in Osun had made it compulsory for every resident to clean his environment twice monthly.
“Health is wealth, so the saying goes. The basic concept of the bi-monthly sanitation in Osun is to make people healthy and, by implication, prolong their life-span.
“The government really organises the exercise perfectly, as there is adequate provision of wastes disposal bins,’’ he said.
Mrs Omolabake Goriola, a resident of Dada Estate in Osogbo, however, raised concern on what he described as misuse of waste disposal bins by some residents.
“Some people do not have proper orientation about waste disposal bins. They do not understand the purpose of the bins. Some will even dump their wastes in the gutter after sanitation.
“In spite of all what the government has put in place to ease waste disposal, this attitude hinders the conduct of environmental sanitation in the state.
“The government should do more in the area of instilling consciousness in the people through incessant campaign and advocacy,’’ she said.
Mr Sunday Ogunsakin, an official of the Health Department of Olorunda Local Government Council in the state, said “our people appreciate the need to have clean environment and healthy living, so, they always co-operate.’’
