Governor Rochas
Okorocha of Imo State has charged members of the Imo Civil Guard not to intimidate members of the public while carrying out their duties in the state.
Okorocha gave the charge in Owerri while inspecting a Guard of Honour mounted by the paramilitary group at the Government House, Owerri.
He urged members of the group to apply force only as a last option in course of their duty.
The governor blameed the traffic congestion in Owerri on impatience of drivers and activities of street traders, especially along Douglas Road.
He charged members of the outfit to ensure smooth traffic flow in the state, promising to equip them with communication gadgets.
Okorocha urged them to work in synergy with the police and other security agencies by providing relevant information on robberies and kidnappings in the state.
The governor said that they would soon undertake a one-month intensive seminar on effective communication in the state.
He commended the leaders for their commitment in their recent training exercise and promised to boost their operations with over 600 new recruits.
Okorocha cautioned them against bribery, warning that anybody found wanting would be severely dealt with.
The Director-General of the Guard, Chief Donatus Ejifugha, commended the state government for establishing the guard.
He promised on behalf of his men to check illegal trading on the streets and traffic congestion.
Ejifugha called on the people of the state to cooperate with them
