Obasanjo Commissions Schools, Other Projects In Rivers, Monday
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is expected in Rivers State on February 17, on the invitation of the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi to commission some of the 300 schools built by his administration.
Governor Amaechi disclosed this at the public presentation of the state Ministry of Education Sector Strategic Plan and the Education Service Charter, at the conference hall of Port Harcourt Technical and Vocational Centre, Old GRA.
He maintained that despite the challenge of running a free education system in the state, he was prepared to continue with the policy and provide welfare for the teachers.
He said that his administration was working hard to ensure that all the schools built during his tenure were equipped with computers and other necessary Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities.
He regretted that due to massive corruption at the federal level, states were having dwindling revenue allocation, thus making it a big challenge for his administration to complete some of the projects and even pay the 13,200 newly employed teachers.
The expected visit of former President Obasanjo to Rivers State would be his first since 2007 when Governor Amaechi came on board.
