Monarch Docked Over Illegal Possession Of Fire Arms

The paramount ruler of
Emilaghan community in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Sunday Iwori, has been docked before a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court for an alleged unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition on charge sheet number PMC/81C/2014.
The accused, a retired Superintendent of Police, Chief Sunday Iwori, 63, is standing trial on three count charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, threat to life and intent to cause panic, before Chief Magistrate Emmanuel C. Woke of state Chief Magistrate, Court I.
The Prosecuting Police Officer, Sgt Aaron Nsirem, told the court that the accused person, Chief Sunday Iwori and others at large, sometimes in the month of January, 2014 at Emilaghan community in Abua Central, in Abua/Odual local government area of the state, in the Port Harcourt Magistrate District, did conspire amongst themselves to commit felony, to wit: threatening violence and unlawful possession of firearms.
The police prosecutor further told the court that the accused sometimes in the same month, date and place, within the jurisdiction of the court, with intent to intimidate or cause panic, did threaten the life of one Chief Deghobo Ogaghama and other members of the family, that he was going to shoot them gun.
The prosecution also told the court that the accused person on the 29th day of January, 2014 at Emilaghan Community in Abua, within the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did have in his possession, six 7.5mm and one round of 6mm live ammunitions adding that when the accused was accosted, he could not give satisfactory account on how he came about them.
He averred that the accused person committed an offence punishable under section 516A (1) and 86(1) of the criminal code cap. 37 vol. II laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999 as well as section 3(1) of the Firearms (Special Provisions) Act cap, RII, Vol II: laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2014.
In his ruling, the presiding Chief Magistrate Court I, Emmanuel C. Woke granted the accused person bail to the tune of N500,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety shall deposit four recent passport photographs and must be a resident within the court jurisdiction. The surety  must swear an affidavit of means which shall be verified by the court prosecutor
