Man Docked Over Alleged Damage Of N156,000 Property

An unemployed man,
Sunday Afile,30, was on Thursday docked at an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly damaging the property of Tantalisers Food Service Company.
Afile, who resides at Apapa area of Lagos, is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, break-in, unlawful damage and intent to harm.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kalu Umeh, told the court that the accused, with others now at large, conspired to break into Tantalisers and maliciously damaged a window and two inner doors valued at N156,000.
“The accused also injured one Samuel Julius with a cutlass when the man caught him breaking into Tantalisers,” Umeh said.
According to the prosecutor, the accused committed the offences on February 10, at No.26, Kofo Abayomi St., Apapa, Lagos.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 244, 304, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Sections 348 and 409 prescribe two years each for willful damage to property and conspiracy respectively, while Section 304 stipulates seven years imprisonment for an offender convicted of house breaking.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to all the counts of the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr O.M Olubi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N 200, 000, with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till March 17, for mention.
