Incitement: SSS Releases Asari Dokubo …After Six-Hour Interrogation
The State Security Service (SSS) yesterday released the leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, after six hours of interrogation.
The former warlord was cautioned and allowed to go home.
Asari, who arrived at the headquarters of the SSS in Abuja at 9.45am, was quizzed for six hours and released around 4pm.
Dressed in striped blue and white short-sleeved attire, Asari was accompanied by a lawyer from Festus Keyamo chambers, a former chairman of Asari Toru Local Government Council of Rivers State, Chief Aroloyeteim Brown, some chiefs from the Niger Delta and some members of NDPVF.
Asari was allowed into the security agency’s premises with his lawyer and Brown.
The ex-militant was invited by the SSS, following his alleged inflammatory statements in connection to the 2015 election, in which he stressed in unequivocal terms that there will be bloodshed, if President Goodluck Jonathan was not re-elected.
The SSS Deputy Director, Public Relations, Marilyn Ogar, confirmed that it was questioning Dokubo based on the inflammatory comments.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) had demanded that Department of State Servic (DSS) arrest Mujahedeen Asari-Dokubo and described as reckless, irresponsible and totally condemnable the alleged threat by Mujahedeen Asari-Dokubo to levy war against Nigeria even if President Goodluck Jonathan is defeated even in a free and fair election in 2015.
“There is no better test of the fairness, non-partisanship and professionalism of the SSS than this Asari-Dokubo’s threat to levy war on his own country. If Asari-Dokubo is not above the laws of the land, he must be hauled before the SSS, just like the service did to our Deputy National Secretary, to explain his statement,” APC had said.
Speaking on a Channel’s TV programme, Politics Today, Dokubo said: “2015 is already a settled matter; Goodluck Jonathan will be president in 2015. Whether they contest or they don’t contest, Goodluck Jonathan will be president,” adding that he would be ready for violence if needed.
Replying to comments made by former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, Dokubo warned that that “if they say the blood of the dogs and the baboon will be soaked in water on the street, in blood on the street, in salt water on the street, we will help them soak them in blood”.
The former Head of State was reported to have said that “If what happened in 2011 (alleged rigging) should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood,” in May of 2012.
Buhari spoke in Hausa while addressing members of the CPC from Niger State, who paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna. He also warned that 2015 would be bloody if the elections were not transparent, just as he dismissed reports that he would not contest the 2015 presidency.
Buhari who painted a gory picture of Nigeria as that of a hound and a monkey engaged in a battle for survival said, “God willing, by 2015, something will happen. They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very disgraceful way.”
