Four Rivers Sons Make Centenary Award List
Four prominent Rivers citizens are among the 100 distinguished personalities to be conferred with different categories of awards by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to mark Nigeria centenary anniversary.
The Rivers personalities to be honoured include Nigeria’s first Chief of Air Staff, Brig-Gen George T. Kurubo, who falls within the category of pioneers in professional career calling, while Prof Kelsey Harrison and Prof Dagogo Fubara are to be conferred with the centenary award as distinguished academics.
Also, late Prof Claude Ake is to be conferred with a post-humous award in same category as a distinguished academic.
A statement by the presidential committee on Nigeria’s centenary celebration said the awards ceremony scheduled to hold on Friday at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, would kick off at 7.00pm.
The statement also indicated that the recipients of the centenary awards are recognized based on their outstanding contributions to the development of Nigeria within the past 100 years.
The statement assured that the event will be colourful and reflective of the contribution of Nigeria and foreigners to the development of the country since the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates by Lord Fredrick Lugard, who along with his wife, Flora, would also receive post-humous awards at the ceremony.
