Federation Tasks Para-Powerlifters On Discipline

The Nigeria Para-
powerlifting Federation (NPF), has charged athletes invited for the Open National Trials, to be disciplined and to adhere to the rules and regulations guiding the sport.
NPF’s Technical Director, Samuel Ekeoma,  told newsmen in Lagos that the athletes would participate in the forthcoming, IPC Powerlifting Championship in April in Dubai as a prelude to the Commonwealth Games.
The trials started from February 17 and will end today at the Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State.
“We expect all the invited athletes to arrive on time and stick to the stipulated guidelines for the trials.
“We want to select more athletes that will represent the country at the championship so that they can compete at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. “For any athlete to compete at the Commonwealth Games, he must participate at the Dubai championships and get the necessary classification to compete in the Games,’’ he said.
Ekeoma told newsmen that the federation’s target was to qualify more athletes for the Commonwealth Games and increase the country’s chances of winning more medals at the Games.
He assured that athletes would be picked according to their level of performance in the three-day trials.
Our source reports that Nigeria won a total of 35 medals made up of: 11gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games in India.
