farmers in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State were last Tuesday empowered with various farm tools and equipment by Fadama, our correspondent reports.

The council’s Director of Agriculture, Mr Abiodun Ige, presented the equipment on behalf of the Fadama programme.

Ige said that the intervention became necessary to make life easier for farmers in the area.

According to him, farmers and their wives will be more productive with the materials during and after the coming rainy season.

The items distributed included generators, grinding machine, wheel barrows, fridges, dragnets, maize chillers, cassava graters and storage tanks, among others.

Ige said that items were valued at N1.5 million and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of them.

“That is the only way to say thank you to Fadama.’’

Also speaking, the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Saheed Yusuph, lauded Fadama for the initiative and pleaded with the beneficiaries to reciprocate by taking good care of the items.

“I hope we will be good citizens by making good use of all these materials because this is the only way to say that Fadama did not make mistake by purchasing these items for us.

“I plead with you all not to sell any of these materials because doing so would be a crime against humanity and God.

“I sincerely thank Fadama for various initiatives and their interest in us; they have been so wonderful to our people here,’’ he said.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the Chairman of the Fadama Users’ Group in Iseyin, Alhaji Musapha Oladosu, promised that the beneficiaries would make good use of the items.

Oladosu said that a monitoring team would be put in place see to see how well members would use the items.

25 Fadama Users’ Groups, comprising 12 members each, benefitted from the donation.
