The Managing Director
of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Mr Robert Dickerman, has assured that the company will procure 2,000 transformers to boost power in the area.
Dickerman, who announced the plan during his familiarisation visit to the Nsukka Business Unit, said the company would also procure 50 vehicles for its operations in the area.
He said the facilities would be effectively deployed in the area to enable the districts in its operative area to perform optimally.
“We are aware that some of our customers are not happy because of poor service; our main concern is to improve and make our customers happy. All customers who paid for the pre-paid meters will get them soon,” he said.
He urged the staff members to display integrity, quality service and performance, saying that those attributes would improve service delivery as well as restore the trust of the customers in the company.
The managing director said that as part of good customer-care, the company would stop bill estimation which had made many customers to complain of outrageous billing.
He also announced that henceforth, promotion of staff would be based on performance and merit.
He identified illegal connection, otherwise known as meter by-pass, as a major problem facing the pre-paid metering system.
“I want consumers to remember that meter by-pass is a criminal offence punishable by law. The company is developing technology to tackle it,” he said.
In a remark, the Nsukka Business Manager, Mr Oyedipo Waleola, said the district had more than 17,000 active customer population made up of 85 per cent rural dwellers and 15 per cent urban population.
He said that workers in the district were hardworking but that they had the constraint of inadequate operational vehicles, maintenance materials, poor working environment and lack of internet facilities.
“Addressing these challenges will improve performance and productivity in the district,” Waleola said, assuring him that the workers would continue to do their best to enable the EEDC to be the best in the country.
