Don’t Remind Us Of Dark Days In Rivers, PDP Tells Sekibo

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), in Rivers State led by Chief Godspower Ake has dismissed recent comments by a former Secretary to Rivers State Government, (SSG), Dr. Abiye Sekibo, and condemned in strong terms what the party said is Sekibo’s “disgraceful backsliding.”
The PDP accused Sekibo of showing no respect for Rivers people, whom he allegedly traumatised while he was the SSG.
In a statement last Saturday, the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mr. George Ukwuoma-Nwogba,  urged Sekibo to save the people of the state any reminder of the dark memories that characterised his days as SSG.
“He should not in any way remind us of those ugly days, the killings, the inter and intra-tribal communal strifes that ravaged his Okrika home town and other ethnic groups in the state.
“ Sekibo should not remind Rivers people his abysmal performance as transport Minister that led to his sack by former President Olusegun Obasanjo barely one year in office. We would better not be reminded of Sekibo’s quota in the crisis that collapsed the economy and security of the state until Governor Chibuike  Amaechi came to office,” the PDP remarked.
“Between Abiye and Governor Amaechi, we are tempted to ask: who respects President Goodluck Jonathan or has the interest of the president more at heart? Is it a man who fought Jonathan, campaigned in another party in 2011 against the president’s election, or a governor who fought and ensured the president received over two million votes, the highest in any state?
“Abiye destroyed all we had together as a people during his days in power, and should please congratulate the best performing governor who he never gave any chance to succeed.
“We take it that Sekibo still suffers from the shock of the electoral defeat he suffered in the hands of Governor Amaechi. Sekibo, no doubt, still has the hang-over of the rejection he suffered when in 2011 Rivers voters turned their back on him”, Ukwuoma Nwogba said.
According to him, “unlike when Sekibo was the SSG, today, Rivers State eminent citizens are honoured; traditional rulers receive due respect; Rivers people sleep with their eyes closed against what Sekibo proposed when he promised to ensure that Rivers people would sleep with one eye open.
He said “our candid advice to Sekibo is to join Governor Amaechi in building our state into the envy of all.
“Attacking Governor Amaechi which is now a lucrative money-spinner for Sekibo and his likes, would not change the global status of Gov. Amaechi. So, Sekibo should better stop throwing stones”, the Ake-led PDP added.
